Second Claim Policy
“We want every member to contribute to Harrogate Harriers & AC and compete for us and grow the club”
— Ben, Club Chair
Second Claim Policy - November 2023
Harrogate Harriers & AC regulate a second claim policy. We want all members to compete for us and support our club.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that training sessions are offered to as many first claim members as possible and to ensure fair competition between clubs.
Harrogate Harriers & AC will generally accept second claim membership for prospective members whose first claim clubs are ‘non-geographic’.
Harrogate Harriers & AC will generally accept membership for second claim from members who have previously been members but moved outside the UK but wish to maintain a link with the club. This association is appreciated by the club.
Harrogate Harriers & AC will not accept applications for second claim membership from members whose first claim club are competing in the same competitive team competitions that Harrogate Harriers & AC are in the same year. This includes – Harrogate and District Summer League, PECO Cross Country, West Yorkshire Cross Country, and the Northern Athletics leagues.
Exceptions to point 5 may be made under individual consideration by the committee but generally point 5 will be upheld.
Appeals to this policy should be made to the Harrogate Harriers & AC Chair (chairman@harrogate-harriers.co.uk) who will discuss this with the committee at the next committee meeting. The decision of the committee is final and cannot be appealed further.
Further discussion following a decision on social media is discouraged and is against the ethos of Harrogate Harriers & AC.
In the event of a second claim member running in a team competition representing Harrogate Harriers & AC – they must run in a Harrogate Harriers & AC vest.
Individuals running in a Harrogate Harriers & AC vest when not representing Harrogate Harriers & AC (either first or legitimately second claim) will not be covered by UK athletics/England Athletics (UKA/EA) insurance as per their guidance.
Individuals running in the incorrect vest as per their race entry will also not be covered by UKA/EA insurance.
